As many of you know the American Academy of Religion and the Society of Biblical Literature are having their annual meeting in Chicago this year. They were scheduled to use the Hyatt hotels for the conference. The workers of the Hyatt have been out of contract for three years and thus have called for a boycott of the hotels. In light of this, a bunch of us worked to get AAR and SBL to pull their business from the Hyatts. The AAR has pulled completely and the SBL has pulled some of its business.

In light of the struggle with this this year I am working with a small committee of folks to pass a resolution at this years AAR meeting declaring that the AAR will never use a hotel in the midst of a labor dispute. In order to get this passed we need as much support as possible, which means we need you. We need to get as many signatures as possible to the resolution and we need to get people to the business meeting to vote it in. In addition we would like to organize a constant pro-worker presence at the AAR and SBL meetings.
We are hosting a meeting of students this coming Friday at CTS at 4:00 to talk about the plan and discuss ways to help (room to be announced). This is not a long term commitment and any time you can give will make a difference. Hope to see you there!
