Interfaith Opportunities in February

Community Luncheon with Members of the Yuval Ron EnsembleWednesday, Feb 13, 2013

Members of the Yuval Ron Ensemble, speaking. The Yuval Ron Ensemble endeavors to alleviate national, racial, religious and cultural divides by uniting the music and dance of the people of the Middle East into a unique mystical, spiritual and inspiring musical celebration. The ensemble includes Jewish, Christian and Muslim artists who have been actively involved in creating musical bridges between people of various faiths and ethnic groups worldwide. "Islamic Literature: From Sufi Poetry to Egyptian Feminism"
Feb. 26-Mar. 19, 2013
Tuesdays 7 to 9 p.m.
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1004 Greenwood St, Evanston, IL 60201. 

Readings will include Sufi thought and verse, fiction by Nobel Prize winner Naguib Mahfouz, and short stories by contemporary Egyptian and Palestinian women and others. The series will be led by Dr. Carol Schersten LaHurd, interfaith lecturer and adjunct professor at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. The course will require about one hour preparation time each week. Fee of $20 includes handouts of all readings.
