Student Interview: Jene Colvin!

At McCormick, we're a small community of students, faculty, staff, families, and friends. However, with new faces (welcome first year students!) and faculty we haven't seen in a while (welcome back from sabbatical!), we thought it was time to get to know each other a little better. Each week, you'll be introduced to a different student. This week, we interviewed Jené Colvin, a first year, Baptist student in the M. Div/MSW dual degree program from Detroit, Michigan. Here's what she had to say . . .

1. If you could be any character in the Bible, who would you be and why?
The Samaritan woman at the well. She had a private moment with Christ at the well. Just a little time with no one other than her and Jesus. Christ showed her who he was and that he truly knew her.

2. What's your preferred "sword of the spirit"? (Common English Bible, The People's Bible (NRSV), etc.)
It depends on what I'm doing. I'm quite partial to the NIV lately.

3. Who's your favorite person in the Trinity? (You can only choose one, and no, saying they are all one and the same doesn't count.)
Hahahaha! All one! I love it. Anyway, I'm gonna go with the Holy Spirit. I love that the essence of God is something that is always in and with me. She rocks.

4. What has been your favorite class at McCormick and why?
I suspect it will be Intro to Urban ministry, but we shall see.

5. If you were a crayon, what color would you be?
Spring Green or bright orange.

6. What would I find in your refrigerator right now?
Brown sugar cookie dough and a half mug of tea I didn't finish. Grocery store is on today's to-do list.

7. If you were a superhero, which superpower would you want to have and why?
Teleportation. Travel is expensive and I don't like flying over water.

8. What's your favorite song lyric?
"They say God always forgives us, but can we forgive ourselves if we let our hope die."  - "Over and Over," Puff Johnson

9. If you could only have three electrical appliances in your house, what would they be and why? Fridge, stove, and blender. I sincerely think I would go mad without being able to cook and make smoothies long before hand-washing my clothes and no media got to me.

10. What is your verse in the Bible and why?
Colossians 3:14, Love = glue.
